Which is larger?

Optical illusions - vertical and horizontal Can you always believe what you see? You will probably answer "yes". But, read this and you will begin to wonder.

Things which are vertical almost always give the optical illusion that they are more important than things which are horizontal.

Which of the two objects in first picture is larger - the left-hand square or the right-hand square? You will see if you measure them.

Optical illusions - surrounded objects Here is one more optical illusion. Have you ever noticed that when you see an object surrounded by much larger objects the first object seems quite small? But if it is surrounded by smaller objects, it will seem quite large. Now look at second picture. Which is the larger circle - A or B?

Lines which cross

Optical illusions - true square When lines cross other lines, the eye usually tries to follow all the lines at the same time. That is why some optical illusions are caused.

Look at first picture. Would you say that the figure inside the circles is a true square? Most people say that it does not look like a square, because the sides of the figure seem to bend inwards towards the center of the circles. But the ruler will tell you whether the sides are straight or not.

Optical illusion - continuous line And lastly, look at second picture and try to discover which line - AC or BC - will be the continuous line if it is joined through the horizontal lines.
